Biography

Tiago acts for national and multinational contractors, subcontractors and consultants across construction, infrastructure, transport and energy sectors. His clients include Acciona Infrastructure Australia, Hansen Yuncken and international consultants and contractors. He is based in Brisbane.

Tiago advises principals, contractors, subcontractors and consultants on risk strategy, claim management and contract negotiation throughout the project lifecycle. His dispute resolution practice covers court proceedings, domestic and international arbitrations (including ACICA, Resolution Institute and ICC rules), expert determinations, and Security of Payment adjudications under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (QLD) and corresponding legislation in other jurisdictions. He holds a Master of Laws in Commercial Litigation with academic distinction.

Tiago has acted in ACICA arbitration proceedings for Hansen Yuncken, including a subsequent appeal to the NSW Supreme Court (Viasat Inc v Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd [2024] NSWSC 1581). He acted for Acciona Infrastructure Australia in multiple Security of Payment adjudication claims arising from the Sydney Light Rail construction and subsequent Supreme Court challenges, including Acciona Infrastructure Australia Pty Ltd v Holcim (Australia) Pty Limited [2020] NSWSC 1423. He has also advised in ICC arbitration proceedings for an international consultant on major motorway upgrade works in Sydney, advised in Resolution Institute arbitration for a major contractor on a solar power plant in Darlington Point, and advised on multiple expert determinations for a head contractor on school redevelopments under the GC-21 Contract. He was named in the Construction team listed on the East Rockingham Waste-to-Energy Project proceedings alongside lead partner Phillip Coady.

Acted for Hansen Yuncken in arbitration proceedings under the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration Rules and a subsequent appeal to the NSW Supreme Court (Viasat Inc v Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd [2024] NSWSC 1581).

Acciona Infrastructure Australia — Sydney Light Rail adjudications

East Rockingham Waste-to-Energy Project — Multi-forum litigation

Part of the Thomson Geer team acting for the receivers of East Rockingham RRF Project Co in three separate proceedings, including two in the WA Supreme Court and one in the Federal Court of Victoria, arising from the A$377 million East Rockingham Waste-to-Energy Project.

ICC arbitration — Sydney motorway upgrade

Advised an international consultant in an ICC arbitration concerning major upgrade works on a motorway in Sydney.

Resolution Institute arbitration — solar farm

Advised a major contractor in arbitration under Resolution Institute Rules concerning the development of a major solar power plant at Darlington Point, NSW.
