Biography

Sherif acts for registered and licensed clubs in the gaming, leisure and hospitality sector, including major NSW registered clubs and industry participants. His client base also includes gaming machine manufacturers and licensees, wine producers and other corporate and non-corporate clients operating in regulated club and licensed venue environments.

Sherif advises across all areas of liquor and gaming law and the law relating to registered clubs. His practice covers club amalgamations, large-scale commercial and property transactions at club sites, mixed-use development, leasing and tenancy arrangements, corporations act and governance advice, regulatory investigations, and general litigation. He also advises on gaming and liquor licensing issues integrated into club development and operational matters.

Sherif acts on matters where club governance, regulatory compliance and the development of club assets are structurally linked. His practice spans major club amalgamations, mixed-use developments on club land valued at tens of millions of dollars, contested regulatory investigations, and complex property and leasing arrangements where sector knowledge and commercial judgement are material.

Sherif has over 35 years’ experience as a lawyer and has specialised in providing legal services to the gaming and leisure industry since 2000. Clients draw on his broad commercial understanding of the industry and his ability to give practical, holistic and prompt advice that integrates corporate, property and regulatory dimensions of club operations.

Parramatta Leagues Club – development of its site for a new clubhouse facility, entertainment and leisure facilities and hotel

Advising Parramatta Leagues Club on its proposed development including on liquor and gaming licensing matters.

Dubbo RSL Memorial Club amalgamations

Advising on Dubbo RSL Memorial Club on three separate amalgamations with regional clubs and application for a new club licence for new premises including a gaming machine threshold increase for the "greenfield" site.

Easts Group — Waverley Bowling Club redevelopment

Advising Easts Group on the approval of a circa A$80 million project to deliver a new clubhouse and senior living development at Waverley Bowling Club, with continuing advice as the development progresses.

West HQ Ltd (Rooty Hill RSL Club) — Precinct development

Acting for West HQ Ltd (trading as Rooty Hill RSL Club) on aspects of the development of its AMF Bowling facility, Sydney Gymnastic and Aquatic Centre and Sydney Coliseum Theatre.

Western Suburbs Leagues Club Ltd — Amalgamation and property dealings

Acting for Western Suburbs Leagues Club Ltd on its amalgamation with Balmain Leagues Club Ltd (subject to deed of company arrangement), its lease of premises at Sydney Markets,  dealings with the developer and owner of the former Balmain Leagues Club site at Rozelle, and acquisition of commercial properties.

Forestville RSL Club Ltd – Proposed new clubhouse and seniors living development

Advising Forestville RSL Club Ltd on core and non-core property issues and generally in relation to its proposed new clubhouse and seniors living development.

Revesby Workers’ Club Ltd — Mixed-use development

Acting for Revesby Workers’ Club Ltd on aspects of its mixed-use development, including gaming and liquor licensing issues.
