Biography

Peter acts for domestic and international insurers, insurance brokers, self-insured entities, industry associations and car rental operators. His clients include participants across the heavy transport and car rental sectors, including Australia's largest car rental groups and major industry bodies such as the Australian Finance Industry Association.

Peter advises across the full lifecycle of transport insurance matters: front-end policy drafting, product disclosure statements, underwriting advice and regulatory compliance through to indemnity and liability disputes and the defence of personal injury claims. He drafts codes of practice, codes of conduct, fair wear and tear guides and rental terms and conditions for the car rental industry, and advises on underwriting frameworks and plain-English policy documentation for on-line distribution.

Peter drafted the AFIA Car Rental Code of Practice on behalf of the Australian Finance Industry Association, covering members with approximately 75% of total Australian car rental market share by revenue, which came into force in March 2018. He has also drafted rental terms and conditions for an international car rental company used throughout Australia and New Zealand, and has conducted a comprehensive product disclosure review for a major insurer's heavy motor insurance policy for plain-English compliance and on-line distribution suitability.

Peter has more than 30 years of underwriting and claims management experience in the insurance industry, giving him direct expertise in how insurers assess and manage risk in the transport sector. His industry relationships and pre-litigation focus consistently produce significant savings in legal costs for clients by resolving claims efficiently before litigation is required.
