Biography

Chris acts for ASX-listed companies, family offices, private and institutional developers and investors, property syndicators, government instrumentalities, banks and financial institutions, and consultants to the real estate industry. He also acts for aged care and retirement living clients in capital transactions and development matters as part of the firm’s national health and aged care team.

Chris advises on all aspects of real estate investment and development, with over 35 years of experience. His practice covers commercial, retail, residential, industrial and tourism asset transactions including major capital transactions, complex titling arrangements for mixed-use master planned developments, leasing of large-scale commercial and retail complexes, property development and sales and due diligence. He also advises clubs and associations on constitutional, finance facility and land ownership matters.

Chris has acted on the A$1.2 billion Gasworks mixed-use development at Newstead in Brisbane for Aveo, advising on all aspects of that landmark precinct including complex titling structures, office and retail leasing and the forward-funded sale of a commercial office tower, which became Bank of Queensland’s corporate headquarters.

Chris combines 35 years of transactional depth and commercial experience with a leadership role as Brisbane Office Managing Partner and National Board member.

Advising on the A$1.2 billion Gasworks mixed-use development at Newstead, Brisbane, including devising, drafting and implementing complex titling arrangements, leasing of the retail shopping centre and commercial office buildings, and the development and forward-funded sale of the commercial office tower which became Bank of Queensland’s corporate headquarters.

Advised Estia Health on the property aspects of its $350 million acquisition of a portfolio of 7 residential care homes (including one new build) across Southeast Queensland.

Jeta Gardens Aged Care — Sale to Opal HealthCare

Acting as part of the multi-disciplinary team advising Jeta Gardens Aged Care on the sale of its aged care business to Opal HealthCare, covering real estate and property aspects of the transaction.

Youfoodz — Berrinba facility

Acting for Youfoodz in development and leasing of a large-scale food manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facility at Berrinba.

Direct Commercial Property — Industrial property portfolio sale

Acted for DCP in the sale to ESR of a portfolio of 6 industrial properties throughout south east Queensland with a combined value exceeding $70 million.

Rix Developments — Pimpama City shopping centre

Acted on all major tenant leases for this greenfield shopping centre development including leases to Coles Express, Coles Supermarkets, ALDI, Hungry Jacks, McDonalds, Supercheap Auto, BCF, Starbucks, Petstock and KFC.

Costa Group — Agribusiness capital transactions

Acting for Costa Group in the acquisition and disposal of multiple agricultural properties including citrus, table grape, avocado, mushroom farms and plantations.

Acting for BP in the leasing of service stations and retail outlets within service stations.  Acting for BP in the sale of service stations and surplus service and refinery properties
