Biography

Andrew acts for principals, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects and other consultants across Queensland and nationally. His clients include major JV contractors, resources sector participants and infrastructure delivery entities. He leads the Queensland construction team at Thomsons and is based in Brisbane.

Andrew advises on construction and engineering matters from the front end through to complex dispute resolution. He acts in litigation, arbitration, expert determination and Security of Payment adjudications under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld) and equivalent legislation across all Australian jurisdictions. He has particular strength in large-scale adjudications and major project disputes involving delay, variations, design and operational issues.

Andrew’s dispute work spans some of Queensland’s most significant infrastructure programs. He has acted in adjudications ranging from A$1 million to A$200 million across all Australian jurisdictions, and in ICC international arbitrations on major LNG projects in Gladstone. His project experience includes Cross River Rail (A$17 billion), Queen’s Wharf Casino Development (A$3.6 billion), Gold Coast Light Rail, Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal and the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects. He also acted for BCS New Zealand in one of the largest adjudication document sets in New Zealand’s history (NZ$42 million). Andrew has over 29 years’ experience in construction and engineering matters in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Acted for BCS New Zealand Ltd, a subsidiary of Daifuku Co. Ltd, in a major adjudication claim against New Zealand Post under the Construction Contracts Act 2002 (NZ), involving one of the largest adjudication document sets in New Zealand’s history.

LNG Projects, Queensland

Advised on ICC international arbitrations involving international parties on major LNG projects in Gladstone, Queensland, as well as large-scale contract drafting and documentation for LNG-related infrastructure.
